It's
almost time…
…time to retire
A Taste of China.
2012-Thirty Years
2012
will be the thirtieth year for A Taste
of China's events. It has become an
extraordinary gathering of friends of Taijiquan,
Qigong, and other Chinese internal and martial
and healing arts. We'll have a Grand Finale in
the summer of 2012, as our single event. Then -
folding our wings and settling comfortably…
inviting a few folks for a small reunion
occasionally … traveling a bit sometimes-
remain happily retired.
As
plans develop for 2012's great party,
we'll let you know. Everyone is invited, please
plan to come.
2011
We
are holding our final Spring Weapons
Seminar and our final Autumn Qigong Retreat,
and co-hosting Summer Seminars with
Winchester Yang Chengfu Center.
Looking Back
Looking
back, it's amazing and wonderful
to see how we've grown since 1983, our first
year. After Steve Rhodes had traveled to
China to study taijiquan at the Beijing Sports
Institute in 1982, so many people eagerly
asked "what was it like?" that we decided to
set up a weekend seminar to let everyone
have "a taste of China." People came to that
first one from "as far away as New Jersey"
we bragged, and we enthusiastically
continued to expand our faculty and
participant base. In 1988 we added the U.S.A.
All-Taijiquan Championships, with resounding
success over the next years for a total of
fourteen tournaments. We sponsored
well-known lineage holders Chen Xiao-wang,
Yang Zhen-duo, and Wang Pei-sheng as
featured guests from China, and many
masters from all around the globe honored
us with their participation and support as
faculty.
Thousands
have come to learn, to share, to
exchange ideas, and simply to be part of a
larger community with a mutual interest in
Chinese martial and healing arts. From first
to last, we appreciate you who have
attended, in every capacity - some only once,
some year after year; all have enriched our
lives.
Purposes
A
Taste of China's purposes have been
constant since our beginning:
to
promote taijiquan,
to
bring together taijiquan players of all
schools and styles to
share their art,
to
create a basis for further exchange
among taijiquan players in the U.S. and other
countries, and
to
create an opportunity for many
distinguished and well - known teachers to
meet together and exchange ideas and
experiences.
We
hope we have accomplished these aims
and that we have served the community that
has trusted us.
